Recording Life Behind the Services
The aim of this site is to create an archive of material recording the human side of the bus and coach industry – what it was or is like working in the industry. Due to space and other limitations, coverage is generally restricted to the UK industry. Coverage extends to working on trams and trolleybuses, as these have strong similarities to work on the buses. Most of the stories are historical but current day stories and blogs are also welcome.
Preserving Personal Experience
It is inevitable that this site will never be a fully comprehensive guide to stories of Working on the Buses, the sources are too many and varied and sometimes only in low circulation journals such as society magazines. If you’d like to contribute a story – not matter how long or short – please contact me to discuss. Ideally material submitted should be in Microsoft Word format, and I can usually use pictures as well, provided you have copyright to them. Equally I would welcome links to source material in the public domain on websites and blogs.
Types of Material Included
This site is hosted as a “spare time” activity so please be patient if you contact the webmaster – I have many calls on my time! It was established in January 2007 but later became defunct. The original content is slowly being added back and expanded, but this will take time, so please visit regularly to see what’s new.
Use the Index page for listings by author or operator, or simply use the site’s search box.
An important note about copyright: all material remains the copyright of the original authors and should not be reproduced elsewhere without their consent. Many of the original stories reproduced here in full (as opposed to links to other sites) have been supplied to me directly and are used with explicit permission of the authors. In other cases, I have extracted material from websites that were once active but are no longer live, such that it has not been possible to trace the authors to seek their consent. If anyone whose material has been used in this way objects, please let me know and I will remove the content.
Copyright in the site design and the Working on the Buses web address is held by Richard Delahoy.
